Understanding Pure O

August 15, 2022 admin 0

What is Pure O?

Pure O is the term for the mental health condition Purely Obsessional, which is a form of OCD (obsessive compulsive disorder).  Like OCD Pure O is a condition that causes unwanted thoughts, feelings and emotions, as well as compulsions.

However, unlike OCD the compulsions do not result in physical repetitive actions but occur in their head as repetitive rituals.

Whilst we all sometimes have strange or disturbing thoughts, we generally think nothing more than “that’s weird, why did I think that?” then dismiss it.

With Pure O, because of the disturbing nature of these thoughts you start to obsess over them and are unable to dismiss them.  In Pure O thoughts centre around subjects such as:

Women’s health makes headlines in 2022. But it took centuries for the medical profession to characterize and understand reproduction, menstruation and childbirth.

That bumpy history is captured in a new display of antique books at Second Story Books in D.C. The rare volumes — all on view, for sale and available to handle — track centuries of evolving knowledge in the fields of gynecology, obstetrics and more.

Featuring 93 books on women’s health, the collection showcases how early physicians thought about female anatomy, reproduction, pregnancy and childbirth.

Most were written by men, but one 1833 volume on maladies of the uterus was penned by Marie-Anne Victoire Gillain Boivin, a French midwife-turned-obstetrician who helped pioneer the field of obstetrics, invented an early speculum and was among the first to listen to the fetal heartbeat with a stethoscope.

Gynecologists actually can see patients online. Here’s how and

North Korea pushes traditional medicine to fight COVID-19

July 27, 2022 admin 0

PAJU, South Korea (AP) — As a medical student in North Korea, Lee Gwang-jin said he treated his fevers and other minor ailments with traditional herbal medicine. But bad illness could mean trouble because hospitals in his rural hometown lacked the ambulances, beds, even the electricity at times needed to treat critical or emergency patients.

So Lee was skeptical when he heard recent North Korean state media reports that claimed such so-called Koryo traditional medicine is playing a key role in the nation’s fight against COVID-19, which has killed millions around the world.

“North Korea is using Koryo medicine a lot (for COVID-19) … but it’s not a sure remedy,” said Lee, who studied Koryo medicine before he fled North Korea in 2018 for a new life in South Korea. “Someone who is destined to survive will survive (with such medicine), but North Korea can’t help others who are dying.”
