The course content is applicable to people from any disciplinary or professional background. These include health and social care, local government, education, planning and regeneration, international development, human rights and social justice, and health-related voluntary and community sector contexts. Many are health professionals working at a service or policy level, while others wish to obtain public health skills that they can apply to their work in development, community services, government, research or teaching. Students are instructed in the development, use and critical evaluation of conceptual models, evidence, methods of analysis, and practical interventions. This is a competency-based module designed to provide you with knowledge and skills for prioritising implementation of a range of public health interventions. This module introduces you to the essential concepts, principles, models and processes used within the field of public health.
Within this module you will learn about the roles and functions of the Department of Health, Public Health England, the National Health Service and identify its partner organisations. You will also explore the wider Health and Social Care system to give you a better understanding of its complexity and the mechanisms by which it is funded. The personal statement forms part of your application, and will be used in the decision making for whether to offer you a place on the course.
