Postgraduate ResearchThe Graduate School brings together postgraduate research students from the variety of disciplines within the Faculty. UndergraduateOur undergraduates have a wide choice of innovative courses with a contemporary focus. The School of Social Sciences is an internationally recognised centre of high quality teaching and research. Applicants for first year entry will apply to other universities as well as to RGU through a single online Universities and Colleges Admissions Service application. Our Psychology Laboratory and Test Library give you access to contemporary IT facilities and laboratory space for experiments and studying.

School of Social Policy

Our degrees stand out and include courses that provide outstanding professional development, including our Primary and Secondary Education undergraduate degrees. They both allow you to gain confidence in teaching over four years, as well as studying your chosen subject specialism at the same time. On this course you have the opportunity to study a range of social science disciplines including sociology, history, geography, psychology and politics. The College of Social Sciences brings together over 450 academics and over 360 professional staff across a range of disciplines and interdisciplinary fields. In your first year you’ll study social policy, sociology and gain a firm grounding in research methods and sources of data.

  • Your final paper can be a further sociology paper, one from another HSPS subject, or borrowed from another department .

Events

Politics focuses on democracy and the relationship between people and policy, at all levels up from the individual to a national and international level. Linguistics focuses on language and how people communicate through spoken sounds and words. For ESRC this includes computational linguistics, psycholinguistics, sociolinguistics, language acquisition and interdisciplinary social science research involving linguistics. Advanced entry into Year 2 or Year 3 is possible for students with suitable qualifications.
